Engineering Manager • July, 2021 — Present

I took over a small team and hired new engineers, growing to a team of seven. We worked primarily on data governance and access control but were flexible to meet business and product needs where we could have the greatest impact. I collaborated closely with our product team to prioritize business needs along with engineering requirements.

  • Managed engineers into tech lead positions, promotions, and performance improvements, while driving projects for valuable new features supporting the enterprise segment.
  • Mentored new engineers into our tech stack and best practices when writing, reviewing, and shipping code.
  • Spearheaded the adoption of an Agile framework within Jira, resulting in more consistent and predictable outcomes and a 30% improvement in velocity compared to when we started.
  • Implemented support for additional SSO providers to support the enterprise segment now used by 45 customers.
  • Collaborated cross-functionally with Customer Success and Sales to maintain and win customers. This prevented churn and directly contributed to winning dealswhile also focusing efforts on long term product goals.

As the tech lead of the Data and Integrations team, I drove projects to add additional integrations to our application, to increase support for complex data types, and to implement processes and organization to the team. This allowed our customers to get more data enhancing their ability to make insightful decisions to retain and grow their own customers.

  • Implemented support for SFDC custom objects requiring a schema reflection mechanism and complex flexible configuration tools and data interactions allowing our customers to import an additional 30M records to drive data-based decisions and automation.
  • Owned Data Warehouse integrations enabling customers to enrich data from various sources, allowing over 140 customers to bring in data from more than 540 sources. This system syncs and processes over 48M updates per day.
  • Implemented tools to empower User Support and Customer Success teams to act on Customer requests and relieve Engineering involvement in frequent inbound requests, freeing up approximately 10% of engineering capacity to focus on new innovative features.

As a senior engineer and tech leader, I mentored new team members, collaborated with the product team to develop features, and managed projects. I emphasized lean features, built internal tools to streamline processes, and contributed to cross-functional teams for solution development.

  • Led the development of a user dashboard alerting the user to upcoming deadlines which became the new home page/mission control of the application reducing content production delays and speeding up content delivery by 40%.
  • Contributed to the Analytics Suite offering, Rails API, DSL for ElasticSearch aggregations, and visualization tools allowing customers to understand reader engagement driving data-based decisions about the content they produce, allowing for insights, optimization and ultimately 6X ROI on content value.
  • Contributed to the transition from Elastic Beanstalk on AWS to container-based architecture managed using Kubernetes allowing the team to deploy multiple times a day from twice per month.
  • Implemented content production blockers requiring settlement of outstanding balances before continuing which resulted in doubling of revenue and the company becoming profitable within 3 months.
